Giant robot statue lit in red and blue stands against a dusky sky. Its eyes glow brightly, evoking a futuristic and powerful presence.

The Gundam series kicked off in the late '70s and has captured fans all around the world. Lately, Japan has taken this love to the next level by building full-sized Gundam statues in different spots. In this blog post, we're going to check out three awesome life-sized Gundam installations in Japan that you can see now in 2025.

Odaiba Gundam: RX-0 Unicorn Life-Sized Gundam Statue in Tokyo, Japan 2025

Odaiba, located in Tokyo, is home to perhaps the most famous and my favorite life-sized Gundam. Introduced in 2017, this 19.7 meters (64.6 feet) statue is modeled after the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam.

The Odaiba Gundam is well-known for its captivating evening light shows and transformation from unicorn mode to destroy mode, which attract crowds each night. The vibrant colors and synchronized music help create a magical atmosphere outside the mall.

Showtimes: Transformation into destroy mode occurs four times a day: 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm. Light shows occur every half-hour from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM.

Location: DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, Japan, 〒135-0064 Tokyo, Koto City, Aomi, 1 Chome−1−10 ダイバーシティ東京プラザ内 2Fフェスティバル広場

Inside the mall, you will find The Gundam Base Tokyo store offering exclusive merchandise, awesome displays, and interactive activities, enhancing the experience.

FYI: The Gundam Base Tokyo store is currently distributing numbered tickets to avoid overcrowding in the store.

Tip: Outside the mall on the right hand side behind the Unicorn Gundam check out The Gundam Base Toyko Annex store for more Gunpla and Gundam souvenirs.

The Fukuoka Gundam: RX-93ffν Life-Sized Gundam Statue

Fukuoka, over on Kyushu Island, is home to the life-sized Gundam that was revealed in 2020. The Fukuoka Gundam is inspired by the RX-93ffν Gundam from "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack," and it stands at 24.8m tall (81.3) feet!

You can view this Gundam from every perspective and see it slightly move, it's truly impressive! The lights, sound effects, and video fully immerse you in the experience although you are right outside a mall. To watch a clip, take a look at this video from our visit.

Showtimes: The Gundam Activation occurs daily, beginning every hour from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Evening shows take place every half hour from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Location: LaLa Port Fukuoka, 6 Chome-23-1 Naka, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka, 812-0893, Japan

Inside the mall on the top floor you will find Gundam Park Fukuoka. Its a cool complex with three sections. GUNDAM SIDE-F, where you buy merchandise including gunpla, see gunpla displays, and get more info on gundam. VS PARK WITH G, which has interactive sports activities with a Gundam twist. And namco, where you can enjoy arcade and crane games.

TIP: If you're into Gunpla and looking for more exclusive merchandise in Fukuoka, make sure to visit the Gundam Base Fukuoka, which is a 35-minute train ride away from the statue.

FYI: Currently the Gundam Base Fukuoka admission is by lottery between 10:00 and 12:00. Only winners will be allowed into the store during these times. After 12:00, they should operate with normal entry depending on the congestion situation.

The 2025 Temporary Osaka Gundam: RX-78F00/E Life-Sized Gundam Statue

A giant robot reaches toward a starry sky, near a building with "Gundam Next Future Pavilion" text. Colors are vivid blues and purples.

You might recognize this Gundam because it's actually a revamped statue from the beloved life-sized moving Gundam at Gundam Factory Yokohama. After the Yokohama factory shut down in March 2024, they reworked the statue for Expo 2025 Osaka, which is just a temporary event. The statue, kneeling on one knee with an arm stretched towards the sky, is a whopping 17 meters (55.7 feet) tall. It might not move, but its star-reaching pose is seriously impressive. Can't wait to see it in October!!

FYI - Entrance: You must purchase Expo 2025 Osaka tickets to view the Gundam statue outside the pavilion. A lottery reservation may be required to enter the Gundam Next Future Pavilion for the exhibition, interactive activities, and access to exclusive gunpla. Expo 2025 Osaka ends October 13, 2025.

Location: GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE PAVILION, 1 Chome-5 Yumeshimanaka, Konohana Ward, Osaka, 554-0000, Japan

Tip: Book tickets ahead of time to get access to the 2 month lottery, 7 day lottery, and same day reservations.

Random: We have had the privilege to see all three, well the RX-78F00/E in Yohokoma and plan to see it again in Osaka in October before it's gone again. Our future plans is to visit the ZGMF-X10A Freedom Life sized Gundam in Shanghai, China hopefully sometime next year.

These installations are key tourist attractions, offering fans unique experiences beyond traditional media. Life-sized Gundams combine technology, art, and community, showcasing Japan's creativity and innovation. They create spots where fans can come together and enjoy their love for the franchise. Hope you get to see one or all of them!!
